Current Volunteer Opportunities

The volunteer position descriptions are listed as they become available. For the sake of stability and continuity for our clients, there is a 100 hour commitment required. Most positions require a one-shift-a-week commitment.

Food Program Assistant
Prepare and serve meals for youth.  Help ensure our clients receive healthy meals, provide a welcoming environment, assist with dishwashing and clean up, help organize kitchen on delivery days.  Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Clinic Assistant
Participate in the running of a CLIA moderate lab and participate in the running of the clinic as a whole. Work closely with OHSU and NCNM students, residents and doctors.

Work Crew Lead Assistant
Assist and provide support to Work Crew Leader in directing youth work teams. Work projects will be at various locations in the Portland Metro Area and consists mostly of light industrial and maintenance work, mainly outdoors. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Volunteer Program Assistant
Assist with the recruitment, training, and placement of agency volunteers. Support the administration of all systems which record and report on the function and the outcomes of the Volunteer Program. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Intravenous Drug Users Health Services Worker
To provide syringe exchange and HIV/Hepatitis C prevention and safer injection education for people who inject drugs. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Referral Volunteer
Support increased access to medical resources for our clients by assisting clinic staff with specialty referrals, quality assurance, patient resources and medical records management. Support the clinic front desk and the medical assistants. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Learning Lab Tutor
Provide GED and basic skills instruction to students enrolled in the Urban Ed Alternative School. Will implement an educational plan developed by Urban Ed teachers. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Job Readiness Training Tutor
Assist students enrolled in our Job Readiness Training program with written assignments (resumes, cover letters, and other short documents), basic computer skills, identifying job
skills, researching local opportunities, practicing interviewing skills, and other job-related

Employment & Education Resource Center Receptionist
Provide information to and welcome individuals who drop in to the Employment & Education Resource Center (ERC) in between scheduled activities. Serve as a central point of information regarding the ERC's schedule and provide referrals to other services and agencies as needed. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Project Erase Clinic Assistant
Support clinic staff and healthcare providers with clinical and administrative tasks, including assisting with tattoo removal procedures. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Maintenance Assistance Specialist
Assist and provide support to the Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator to sustain a high level of service to our clients by maintaining a high quality of mechanical repair and appearance. Assist with building maintenance, painting, light construction, landscaping, maintenance and repair of grounds and gardening. Job Description (.doc) or (.pdf)

Employment Training Assistant - Virginia Woof Dog Daycare Center
Work at one of the Virginia Woof Dog Daycare Centers with paid staff and youth. Assist with a variety of duties from registering dog clients, tending to the welfare of the dogs, picking up after the dogs, answering questions for customers and assisting with the dog activity schedule. Clinic Interpreter
Provide accurate medical interpreting for our clinic’s Spanish speaking population.

Locksmith
Outside In is looking for a locksmith who is familiar with commercial applications. We have a consistent need for lock adjustments repairs and installations. Our needs are about 6 to 10 hours per month. We pay for parts and materials when needed.

Medical Professionals

Podiatrist
The homeless have more health concerns around their feet than most. Will you provide podiatry health care to the clients of Outside In? Multnomah County provides indemnity coverage, and Outside In provides all necessary supplies and equipment. Help the community with your volunteer service and share the healing benefits of your skill. Hours are negotiable and can be worked around your own schedule.

Licensed Acupuncturist
Provide acupuncture treatment to the clients of Outside In. Outside In supplies all necessary herbs, needles, and other equipment. Providers have the opportunity to use an extensive bulk herbal pharmacy and provide these medicinal herbs to clients. Help the community with your volunteer service and share the healing benefits of your skills.

Massage Therapist
Outside In uses a variety of volunteers to provide supportive therapies to our clients. If you are a massage therapist and would like to give your time and talent to our clients, this is the place for you. Hours vary and you must be licensed in the state of Oregon.
