The volunteer position descriptions are listed as they become available. For the sake of stability and continuity for our clients, there is a 100 hour commitment required. Most positions require a one-shift-a-week commitment.
Youth Department
Employment Resource Center: Learning Lab Tutor
Provide GED and basic skills instruction to students enrolled in the Urban Ed Alternative School. Will implement an educational plan developed by Urban Ed teachers.
Food Program Assistant
This is a hands-on position interacting with our youth clients. Prepare and serve meals, eat with youth, and help clean up. Be a role model and a good listener. Meals are served Sunday through Friday.
Volunteer Department
Volunteer Administrative Assistant
The Volunteer Administrative Assistant will assist the Volunteer Coordinator in all aspects of volunteer recruitment, screening, interviewing, placement, reporting and management. This is an excellent opportunity to learn volunteer management and the right candidate will be given extensive on-the-job education and training.
Support Services
Information & Referral Specialist
Looking for friendly and helpful people to greet visitors and direct them to the services they need. Provide agency reception in person and on the phone. Serve as a central point of information about Outside In services and provide referrals to other agencies. Shifts available: Mon-Fri; 9:00am-1:30pm and 1:30pm-6:00pm.
Locksmith
Outside In is looking for a locksmith who is familiar with commercial applications. We have a consistent need for lock adjustments repairs and installations. A person who is available for occasional lock in distress call. Our needs are about 6 to 10 hours per month. We pay for parts and materials when needed.
Virginia Woof Dog Daycare
Employment Training Assistant - Virginia Woof Dog Daycare Center
Work with paid staff and youth/client interns at the Virginia Woof Dog Daycare Center. Assist with a variety of duties from registering dog clients, tending to the welfare of the dogs, answering questions for customers and assisting with the dog activity schedule. We now have two locations, 1520 W Burnside and 520 NE Martin Luther King Blvd.
Clinic
Clinic Administrative Assistant
Develop valuable skills. Assist the Clinic team with post-appointment coordination, medical records management, service networking and research. Gather information about medical resources in the community. Call clients and interact with medical providers and students. Prefer candidates who can work 12-20 hrs/week for min 3 months. This is an excellent opportunity for an academic intern, or for someone who wishes to move into the medical field.
IDUHS - Intravenous Drug Users Health Services Worker

This position works with some of the most disenfranchised clients at Outside In. You must be a person that is comfortable working with people who are active in their addictions to drugs and/or alcohol. This position requires the utmost level of compassion and understanding. You must have the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, with homeless and sexual minority adults.
Medical Professionals
Podiatrist
The homeless have more health concerns around their feet than most. Will you provide podiatry health care to the clients of Outside In? Multnomah County provides indemnity coverage, and Outside In provides all necessary supplies and equipment. Help the community with your volunteer service and share the healing benefits of your skill. Hours are negotiable and can be worked around your own schedule.
Dentist
Medical Teams International provides the Dental Van and all the supplies, will you provide dental health care to the clients of Outside In? Multnomah County provides indemnity coverage, and Outside In and Medical Teams International supply all the rest. Help the community with your volunteer service and share the healing benefits of your skill. In general, the shifts are five hours/once a month.
Acupuncturist
Provide acupuncture treatment to the clients of Outside In. Outside In supplies all necessary herbs, needles, and other equipment. Providers have the opportunity to use an extensive bulk herbal pharmacy and provide these medicinal herbs to clients. Multnomah County provides indemnity coverage to cover you while you are working at OI. Help the community with your volunteer service and share the healing benefits of your skills. License required.
Massage Therapist
Outside In uses a variety of volunteers to provide supportive therapies to our clients. If you are a massage therapist and would like to give your time and talent to our clients, this is the place for you. Hours vary and you must be licensed in the state of Oregon.
