Youth Advocate
Outside In is a non-profit leader in Portland providing
health care, transitional housing, case management,
employment training, and education services to homeless
youth and low-income individuals.
Purpose
This position will
work as an advocate with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
and questioning (LGBTQ) homeless youth ages 16-21. This full-time
position will work within innovative, skilled multi-disciplinary
team to support culturally diverse and homeless LGBTQ young
people and allies. Position will also serve as coordinator
for LGBTQ Advocacy activities.
An ideal candidate will possess a passion for working with LGBTQ youth and be able to:
engage and work with homeless LGBTQ youth within the Youth Department at Outside In,
utilize positive youth development in working with youth,
provide access to resources,
provide individualized support for youth,
assist in organizing two work experiences for LGBTQ youth through Outside In's employment program,
advocate for queer youth within the Homeless Youth Continuum,
coordinate with community partners including SMYRC,
organize and support for social/recreational/educational/prevention activities,
recruit and support volunteers,
supervise other LGBTQ Advocates and volunteers,
organize Outside In LGBTQ events,
provide training and education to Outside In staff and community partners.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors in relevant field plus at least 2 years relevant experience with this population and 1 year supervision/program coordination experience. Spanish language skills highly valued. MSW/MA Counseling a plus.
